eInfraCentral at the TNC17 Networking Conference
The annual TNC17 conference, 33rd edition, took place this year in Linz (Austria) is amongst the largest annual and most prestigious European research networking conferences. The importance of the conference was highlighted by the fact that the Mayor of Linz held a speech at the Opening plenary. TNC17 is organised by one of the five e-infrastructure partners of the eInfraCentral consortium - GEANT.
eInfraCentral was represented by Henry Varga from EFIS who was hosted at the GEANT booth during the conference. With high visibility at one of the main attraction points during the conference, the event offered a good opportunity to interact with a wide range pf participants from the public (e.g. European Commission) and private sector and to present and discuss the eInfraCentral project as well as and an opportunity to promote the Survey on e-infrastructure service catalogue to relevant to relevant stakeholders.
Bilateral discussions took place with CESNET (association of universities of the Czech Republic and the Czech Academy of Sciences), Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Centre and SUENET/NORDUnet (a collaboration between the National Research and Education Networks) on their involvement as providers or users of e-infrastructure services in the design of the eInfraCentral portal.
Besides presenting the eInfraCentral to participants, discussions also took place around the value of creating a European e-Infrastructure Services Gateway and in some cases how this fits with some similar national initiatives.
